CHANGING LIFE STYLE

CHANGING LIFE STYLE

People of the present day have undergone a massive change not only in maintaining their living standards, but also in their habits, societal manner, ethical values, and ways of thinking.
The so called modern age of ours is an age of rapid flux and inexplicable complexity; the present day is characterized by very rapid and sweeping changes along with large masses of people being tilted towards, rather being driven by machines and technology. In every outward and inward sense; the present age with its whole undivided might, forwards, teaches, and practices the great art of adapting means to ends. “Nothing is now done directly, or by hand (manually); all is rule and calculated contrivance”. On every hand, the living artisan is driven from his workshop to make room for a speedier lifeless appliance because of his inability to compete with the cheap mechanized product of the factories. Along these lines we see a drastic change in each and every sphere of our life. The quality of life we maintain is now more or less dependent on technology than anything else. Even for modest little things of our day to day life ranging from household activities to our professional outfits, we are largely dependent on machines and technology; we feel helpless even if we are deprived of access to technology for a few hours and get into the conclusion that nothing can be done…;
The major setback of these new changing lifestyles is that we are not only utilizing these technologies for our benefits; but are being driven by it, we are more or less some-sort being consumed by machines and technology consequently we are turning into puppets in their hands…
On the other hand, with the changing lifestyle; modern man is governed by intellect rather than emotions and values. He is swayed by a variety of social and political problems. Everything for modern man is calculated in terms of profit and loss and facts; there is no value for human relationships and ethics. Modern man’s attitude towards life lacks emotions, he has a mechanical routine relationship with not only everyone but even with self, he is not aware of its true identity i.e. the soul. Thus now a day’s not only our external and physical life is being managed by machinery and technology, our spiritual being is also affected. As our habits and quality of life regulates not only our modes of action, but also our modes of thought and feeling. Hence “people are growing mechanical in head, and hand as well in heart”; and so the so called modern man of present day is undergoing a miserable inner conflict between reasons and sentiments.

 Ultimately our present age as accepted by critics worldwide, is the age, “advanced in intellect yet immature in emotions”, hence the 21st century masses represent somewhat “economic man”, dominated by reason, intellect and wit.
